We're in the year 2500. Some hundreds of years ago, Earth experienced an unprecedented ecological collapse, all thanks to the disregard of major industrial corporations. Governments, powerless and incapable of making effective decisions, pushed humanity to the brink of extinction.
To avoid complete eradication, five opportunistic start-ups (the Big Five) proposed to shield the remnants of humanity by confining them within an ultra-massive, paradise-like city. Consumption without boundaries or judgment became the sole and only activity.
Since the ecological collapse, the planet has been suffering from extraordinary imbalances (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, droughts, etc.) that the startups vowed to control. To achieve this, they created an artificial intelligence (Paul Lia) which feeds off the endless stream of consumer data to maintain the balance of humanity.
